Laurie's bio:
An experienced trial attorney and child advocate, Laurie Gray earned her B.A. from Goshen College in 1986 and her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in 1993. Laurie taught Spanish at Whitko High School in South Whitley, IN from 1986-1990. As an attorney, Laurie worked in private practice from 1993-2000, as an Allen County Deputy Prosecutor from 2000-2010, a bilingual child forensic interviewer at the Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children from 2010-2016.
Laurie is the founder of Socratic Parenting, LLC (www.SocraticParenting.com), co-creator of Token of Change™, and the author of the three young adult novels and a parenting book. Her debut novel, Summer Sanctuary (Luminis Books/2010), is a Moonbeam Gold Medalist and a 2011 Indiana Best Book Finalist. Her second novel, Maybe I Will (Luminis Books/2013) is also a 2013 Moonbeam Bronze Medalist and a 2014 YALSA Teens' Top Ten Nominee. Luminis Books released Just Myrto and A Simple Guide to Socratic Parenting in 2014. Just Myrto earned a 2015 Moonbeam Silver Medal. Laurie's most recent project is co-writing and publishing The ABC's of Sexual Assault: Anatomy, "Bunk" and the Courtroom with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Michelle Ditton (April 2015).
In addition to writing, speaking and consulting, Laurie worked as the Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator for the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault (ICESA.org) and as a professional trainer for the National Criminal Justice Training Center / Fox Valley Technical College (NCJTC.FVTC.edu) from 2016-2018. She facilitated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) classes at Allen County Community Corrections and served as their Interim Clinical/CBT Coordinator from 2019-2020. From 2011-2016, Laurie was an Adjunct Professor at Indiana Tech teaching Criminal Justice classes and from 2020-2021, she taught Constitutional Law and Civil Rights & Civil Liberties classes as an adjunct professor at the University of Saint Francis.
